Breeding Profile
Aragorn is from a rare Irish Draught sireline,
the Young Arthur line, where there are only 4 remaining stallions. His
Grandsire Grove Hero was a well known breeder of show jumpers. On his dams
side his second dam, Kilbarron Lass is interesting primarily because of
her sire, Upperchurch (512). His sire line goes back to Young JP
via an unusual route: Upperchurch (512) < Faran (408) <
Tipperary (344) < Galty Boy (97)Brehon Law (59) < Young JP (12)
Young JP is of course the great patriarch of most modern IDs. His line
via Brehon Law and Galty Boy is the single most common foundation
line because all of the Milestones, e.g. the Legaun Prince and Pride
of Shaunlara horses, and the King of Diamonds horses fall under it.
However, a rare branch is via Tipperary who had two RID sons: Faran
(408) and Glen of Aherlow (484). Faran had two sons:
Upperchurch (512) and Devil's Bit (515).
Upperchurch's dam was by Clareman (429) who was a grandson of
Comet (1). Clareman was by Merville Prince (309) who
was by Black Comet (52) and out of a mare by Bantry Bay
(63), a grandson of Defender (2), one of the lost foundation lines, at
least as a sire line. Clareman's dam goes back to Prince Henry
(5).
Faran's dam, Burmount Dolly, was a great-granddaughter of
Irish Freedom (27), also a "lost" foundation sire, via
Hackett's Freedom (137) and his son, Grainey (200).
Tipperary's dam, Moll, was a granddaughter of Woodranger
(24). there is quite a bit of variety in Upperchurch's pedigree with
respect to foundation stallions.
Kilbarron Luck’s sire was Lord Luck the well known
TB, giving Aragorn that extra quality of the modern Irish
Draught and a good first cross to the TB mare to produce the Eventer.
Progeny
His progeny are performing in all spheres from County level Showing (including
Champion Show Hunter "Tiny"), through BSJA, to Eventing where a number
are now competing at BHTA Novice and Intermediate level including Mrs. O Reilly,
Treliver Cedric and Treliver Hertzberg.
