Prices effective from 1st May 2008
(1) Chilled / fresh semen insemination package:
£350.00 first oestrous cycle.
£300.00 subsequent cycles.
Package includes: initial reproductive
examination of the mare; ultrasound examinations before and immediately
post-insemination; insemination; the administration of hormonal drugs to induce
oestrus and to control ovulation if necessary; two ultrasound examinations for
pregnancy diagnosis at (i) 14-16 days and at (ii) 28-32 days. (Should the owner
decide to take the mare home after insemination, no refunds will be made for
pregnancy diagnosis scans performed by other Veterinary Surgeons once the mare
has left Hobgoblins Stud).
Package excludes: keep fees; stud fees and the cost of semen; semen collection;
external laboratory fees (for bacteriology of uterine swab where required and
for any other tests); clitoral swabbing; uterine swabbing; cytology; management
of twin conceptions; sedation if required; Caslick’s operation or undoing of a
Caslick’s operation; treatment of endometritis; uterine lavage; uterine biopsy
and any other procedures not specified as being included in the package as
outlined in (1) above.

Frozen semen
insemination package:
£470.00 first oestrous cycle.
£380.00 subsequent cycles.
The increased cost of the
frozen semen package reflects the cost of much more frequent ultrasound
examinations during oestrus(every 6 hours) compared to chilled semen
inseminations and of storing mare owner’s frozen semen prior to insemination.

The cost of purchasing and printing semen straws will be charged for separately,
and is currently £70/500 straws.
