Prices effective from 1st January 2010
(1) Chilled / fresh semen insemination package: £475 first oestrous cycle.
£400 subsequent cycles.
Package includes: initial reproductive examination of the mare; ultrasound examinations before and immediately post-insemination; insemination; the administration of hormonal drugs to induce oestrus and to control ovulation if necessary; two ultrasound examinations for pregnancy diagnosis at (i) 14-16 days and at (ii) 28-32 days. (Should the owner decide to take the mare home after insemination, no refunds will be made for pregnancy diagnosis scans performed by other Veterinary Surgeons once the mare has left Hobgoblins Stud).
Package excludes: keep fees; stud fees and the cost of semen; semen collection; external laboratory fees (for bacteriology of uterine swab where required and for any other tests); clitoral swabbing; uterine swabbing; cytology; management of twin conceptions; sedation if required; Caslick’s operation or undoing of a Caslick’s operation; treatment of endometritis; uterine lavage; uterine biopsy and any other procedures not specified as being included in the package as outlined in (1) above.

(2) Frozen semen insemination package: £575 first oestrous cycle.
£500 subsequent cycles.
The increased cost of the frozen semen package reflects the cost of much more frequent ultrasound examinations during oestrus(every 6 hours) compared to chilled semen inseminations and of storing mare owner’s frozen semen prior to insemination.
Package includes: initial reproductive examination of the mare; ultrasound examinations before and immediately post-insemination; insemination; the administration of hormonal drugs to induce oestrus and to control ovulation if necessary; and two ultrasound examinations for pregnancy diagnosis at (i) 14-16 days and at (ii) 28-32 days. Stallion services
Initial training of a stallion to the dummy mare: £200 for first 2 attempts,

Freezing of semen using dummy mare (excludes initial training of the stallion to use the dummy mare, health checks and keep fees):
£100.00 collection charge / ejaculate + £100.00 / hour semen assessment and processing charge + £16.00/ 8 x 0.5 ml straws insemination dose frozen of commercial standard (no charge is made for doses frozen which fail the tests for post-thaw commercial viability).
NB If stallions need to use an ovariectomised mare rather than the dummy mare, an additional charge of £40/collection applies.
The cost of purchasing and printing semen straws will be charged for separately, and is currently £70/500 straws.
Straws from each ejaculate are assessed by an independent laboratory for quality control and the cost of these assessments plus shipping of the semen will be charged directly to the stallion owner – usually c £15 / ejaculate plus shipping.
Storage of frozen semen: £100/year/stallion.
Hire of dry shipper for transportation of frozen semen: £70 for first day + £20/day for second –third days. Must be returned by third day. Deposit of £300 required. Packaging of semen into dry shipper and documentation: £20

Hobgoblins Stud aims to help you to promote your stallion. For stallions involved in a regular semen collection programme at Hobgoblins Stud we are pleased to offer a free entry on our website. We are also happy to include your stallion in any advertisements which we take out in the printed media at a proportionate cost. Please contact us for further details.
Keep fees at Hobgoblins Stud
At pasture
Mare £12/day from arrival until 2 days after insemination, thereafter £20.00/ day*
Mare with foal at foot £15/day from arrival until 2 days after insemination, thereafter £25.00/day*
For mares which are poor travellers and which therefore need to kept at Hobgoblins for prolonged periods, keep fees can be individually negotiated.
Stabled: if mares need to be kept stabled for any reason an additional cost of £8/day for mares and £12/ day for mares with foals will be levied.
Stallion (stabled, option of turnout or lunge exercise) £30 / day
Stallion in quarantine for export freezing (stabled, option of turnout or lunge exercise) £35/day
*We reserve the right to increase these fees if haylage has to be fed due to inclement weather. If mares and/or their foals require supplementary hard feed, an additional charge of £3/day will be levied.
Foaling down fee: £60 / day** keep + £12 / hour sitting up + £200 Veterinary foaling fee. (excluding any treatments or drugs which may be necessary).** weekend and bank-holiday rate of £100/day.

Examinations at Hobgoblins Stud in Duddleswell incur no visit fee. Examinations at all other premises incur a visit fee based on mileage and travel time.
