Prices effective from 1st January 2012
Stallion services
Initial training of a stallion to the dummy mare: £200 for first 2 attempts,
Thereafter (if needed) £80/collection attempt
Semen analysis, test chilling and testing for shipping,
and written report once trained to dummy £160
Subsequent collections for mares resident at Hobgoblins Stud: £65.00 / collection
Subsequent collections for processing and shipping chilled: £95.00 / collection
(includes analysis, processing, packaging, documentation and arrangement of shipment. Shipping fees will be charged separately)
“Flush out” semen collection prior to collection for use chilled or for freezing £60.00/collection
Test freeze of semen (excluding collection charge) £120
Collection of semen using ovariectomised mare at Hobgoblins Stud: £100.00
Hire of an equitainer: £20 .00/ day
£350 deposit required
Swabbing for CEM and other venereal bacteria
(excluding sedation if necessary and external lab fees) £27.50 / set
Blood testing for EVA/EIA / strangles status:

Freezing of semen
using dummy mare (excludes initial training of the stallion to use the dummy mare, health checks and keep fees):
£100.00 collection charge / ejaculate + £100.00 / hour semen assessment and processing charge + £16.00/ 8 x 0.5 ml straws insemination dose frozen of commercial standard (no charge is made for doses frozen which fail the tests for post-thaw commercial viability).
NB If stallions need to use an ovariectomised mare rather than the dummy mare, an additional charge of £40/collection applies.
The cost of purchasing and printing semen straws will be charged for separately, and is currently £70/500 straws.
Storage of frozen semen: £100/year/stallion.
Hire of dry shipper for transportation of frozen semen: £70 for first day + £20/day for second –third days. Must be returned by third day.
Packaging of semen into dry shipper and documentation: £20
Investigation of subfertility P.O.A depending on problem
Hobgoblins Stud aims to help you to promote your stallion. For stallions involved in a regular semen collection programme at Hobgoblins Stud we are pleased to offer a free entry on our website. We are also happy to include your stallion in any advertisements which we take out in the printed media at a proportionate cost. Please contact us for further details.
Embryo transfer
Non-surgical flush of donor mare and search for embryo: £250.00
Non-surgical transfer of embryo to recipient mare: £190.00
(£100 payable at the time of transfer; £90 payable at first positive diagnosis scan)
Cost of processing, packaging and chilling an embryo for shipment to distant centre for transfer: £150.00 (includes day hire of specialised chilled embryo shipper; shipping costs charged at courier cost price)
Keep fees at Hobgoblins Stud
Mare £20/day stabled with daily turnout if required
Mare with foal £30 / day stabled with daily turnout if required
Stallion (stabled, option of turnout or lunge exercise) £35 / day
Stallion in quarantine for export freezing (stabled, option of turnout or lunge exercise) £40/day
Administrative fees:
(1)Administration relating to importation of semen from a country outside the
£35.00 per delivery (including unpacking and transferring semen).

Examinations at Hobgoblins Stud in Duddleswell incur no visit fee. Examinations at all other premises incur a visit fee based on mileage and travel time.
All prices are exclusive of and subject to VAT at the prevailing rate.
